AWOMO Invites 2000 More Gamers into its Beta Test

14 11 2007

We have just sent out an invitation for the Beta test to another 2000 people who had registered an interest in AWOMO. Through the Game Training Kit they will be able to download and play some top titles which will help us streamline those games for use with AWOMO. Once we have our test games fully trained we’ll move on to the second stage of our Beta where we will be testing the actual download technology. Gamers on that test will be the first to see just how quickly we can pipe games to your PC.
If you’ve been invited, have fun playing. If you encounter any difficulties then visit the forums and our tech team will help you out. The link is on the homepage of your Training Kit.
The more you play, the quicker these games will get fully trained and once they are done we will add a few more. We’ve got some great titles lined up. You can check out the list here.

If you HAVEN’T registered yet then go to AWOMO.com to sign up. We’ll be adding more trainers as the days and weeks go by and many more when the testing reaches its second phase.

AWOMO Beta Test Game Training Kit 1.1 is released

31 10 2007

The group of gamers already training games for use with the AWOMO system have been the first to receive the latest version of the Game Training Kit (GTK). The GTK is the server based application that allows Beta Testers to download full games kindly donated by many major publishers. Once the games are downloaded to the testers computer they can be played as normal and the information gathered by the GTK is sent back to the server and compiled to assess the most efficient way to stream the game through AWOMO in the future.

The current training is going towards creating a collection of games for use in a full Beta Test for AWOMO. Once created, it will be used to demonstrate the speed at which AWOMO can stream any game to a user’s PC.

The first games to be made available through the GTK are Beach Life, Civilization 3 and F.E.A.R. and we hope everyone with access to the GTK will plough straight in. Once those games are 100% traind we will be uploading more titles… some very good ones too!

If you haven’t yet been granted access to the GTK then fear not. We plan to increase the size of the training pool by around 500% in a matter of days. Anyone interested should register at www.awomo.com.

If any users are having issues with the new GTK or any questions in general then they can access the GTK users’ forum using the details that can be found on the email you received with the update notification.

EA’s Vision for Gaming Future

23 10 2007

The BBC have posted an interview with Gerhard Florin, a senior Executive at Electronic Arts in which he envisages a desirable “open, standard platform which is much easier than having five which are not compatible”. Interestingly, he also predicts that server-based games streamed to PCs or set-top boxes, would become increasingly important.

Now if only someone was developing a technology that allowed games to be streamed to PCs at amazing speeds…

Awomo! It’s the future

PC Gamer UK asks “Is AWOMO Steam’s First Real Rival?”

22 10 2007

The UK edition of PC Gamer has responded to their first look at AWOMO very positively. Deputy Editor Tim Edwards came along to the Leipzig unveiling and was shown, along with scores of other journalists and industry types, just what AWOMO could do. Even though it was the first build of the system and only at an early stage, they came away impressed.

“Our socks were blown clean off at Leipzig’s Game Convention when we had AWOMO demonstrated to us… The combination of the social networking of Bebo with a sort of instantaneous Steam-style delivery system is precisely the sort of mad science we love to find out about.”

AWOMO and Future Publishing sit at table, eat some pie, strike a deal

10 10 2007

Good news everyone!

When it launches, AWOMO is going to be supplied by wise words and pictures from two of the leading games websites in the world. Gamesradar.com is going to have a presence in the 3D world and CVG will be piping its word-love into the desktop client. We know these guys well and really like working with them so our day suddenly got very sunny and happy.

What’s that? A little one sided you say? Well don’t worry parity fans, Future Publishing is going to get its ink stained hands on the AWOMO technology and will soon be offering a download service of its own through CVG.com.

So great developments all round then. I like to think the Earth just got goosebumps.

PlorkStation signing on with a question.

3 10 2007

Hello thathappycat, skimpybikini and my follow Awomohamians (sorry),

As this is my first blog on the site I better introduce myself. I am the faux piratical shipmate that thathappycat refered to earlier (aside: “shiver me timbers!”). I was emancipated from slavery aboard the good ship ATVI by HMS Awomo. Very happy about it I am too.

Progress here behind the scenes is swift and frenetic. There will be plenty to report in the coming weeks and I will even sneak in a photo of “Pigeon Loft Roof” asap.

Finally my question; skimpy, why didn’t you answer the phone this morning?

Love,

PlorkStation.

PS a “small” prize for anyone unrelated to Awomo who spots me online (with format, game, date and time).

Ask us Questions

28 09 2007

SO the time has come to ask us questions. You’ve been checking out this AWOMO thing we’re doing and you’ve “kind of” got the idea but there are a few burning issues you just HAVE to get off your chest right?

Well please just ask away! We’ll be happy to answer them and it will be useful for us as we start to put together an FAQ.

The easiest way to do this would be for you to register on WordPress so you can leave us a comment. Then we’ll gather everything up and add it to a big post once we’ve sat down and thought about the answers.

So please do get in touch, even if you think that your question is silly or obvious.

I look forward ot hearing your thoughts and questions.

Tim is a Tourist

21 09 2007

Just been outside taking some photos of our SkimpyBikini to use with an upcoming article about us. Trouble is, our office is right outside the gates of Windsor Castle so we instantly look like tourists… but tourists taking a huge amount of time getting a perfect shot… which is odd. I’ll post a photo as soon as I can steal one from his laptop. To balance that out I think it is now becoming more obvious to the girls that dress up like English Royalty and charge people to have photos with them that we actually just work here and aren’t interested.

…would make an intersting company Christmas card though.

More Users Added to Training Ranks

19 09 2007

The devs have today added a bunch more registrants to the ever-sweling ranks of game trainers. Again… keep an eye on your email you registered with.

Technology. AWOMO. It’s cutting edge.

19 09 2007

So why can’t we get the x&*%$ printer to work?

OK, so we’re surrounded by teams of incredibly talented technologists and programmers. The AWOMO training is going really well now, and we’ve the sense that we’re gaining real momentum with the planning and design of the AWOMO 2D client, which is what you guys will be testing when the training phase ends.

So it’s a bit shite, really, that Andrea (full_mounty) just spent another half hour trying to get a twenty quid print server from PC World to talk to the printer. Or us. Or anything. IPCONFIG, PING this, blah-de-blah.

It should be reassuring to you all to know that your AWOMO team will soon bring you tomorrow’s download tech today but can’t print a document out without taking a USB cable out of the back of the CEO’s laptop.

Thank god for the paperless office eh?

To keep you occupied, here is a nice picture of the valley that runs through the middle of Luxembourg city,
